🧾 Terms and Conditions

Effective Date: Oct-22-2025

Welcome to the Scam Report Tool ("the Service"). This Service is offered free of charge to help victims of online or financial scams prepare and submit reports to relevant agencies (e.g., FTC, IC3, local police).

By using this Service, you agree to the following terms:

1. Purpose

This tool is intended solely for educational and informational purposes. It assists users in organizing and writing scam reports. The Service does not represent or file reports on behalf of users with any agency. Users are responsible for reviewing and submitting their reports to the appropriate authorities.

2. No Legal Advice

The Service and its creators do not provide legal, financial, or investigative advice. If you need professional guidance, please contact law enforcement or a qualified attorney.

3. Zero-Knowledge and Data Ownership

  • All report data you create is encrypted end-to-end.
  • Only you hold the decryption key. We cannot access, recover, or read your reports.
  • If you lose your key, your data is permanently unrecoverable.
  • You are solely responsible for storing your secret key safely.
  • It is strongly advised that users download copies of their reports for local, private storage in case of data loss or service downtime.

4. AI Processing Exception

While your reports are encrypted end-to-end when stored, text sent to AI tools (for rewriting or summarization) cannot be encrypted, as the AI must read the text to respond. These requests are transmitted securely to trusted AI providers under their respective privacy policies.

Uploads and attachments (bank statements, chat logs, images, PDFs): If you upload documents or images, portions of these files may be processed (OCR/transcription) and sent to AI providers or to redaction services in order to extract text or generate summaries. Do not upload documents unless you are comfortable with this. If you are concerned about sensitive details (names, SSNs, account numbers), please redact or mask them before uploading.

You may choose to opt out of AI assistance and write your reports manually; however, in that case, the service will not be useful, as it is primarily AI-driven.

5. Service Availability

This is a community project provided at the developer's personal expense. If operational costs become unsustainable, the Service may be temporarily suspended or permanently discontinued. We will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice when possible.

6. Limited Telemetry

To manage infrastructure costs and improve reliability, the Service collects basic anonymous statistics such as:

  • Total number of users and active sessions
  • Token usage and API call counts
  • Basic error logs for troubleshooting

No personal or report content is included in telemetry. This data helps maintain transparency, allocate server resources, and guide donation requests.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees regarding uptime, accuracy, or performance. Use at your own risk.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer(s) are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of the Service or any generated reports.

9. Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated periodically. Material changes will be posted on the website with an updated "Effective Date."

10. Contact

If you have questions or wish to report a bug or concern, please contact us via the form on the About page.

🔒 Privacy Policy

Effective Date: Oct-22-2025

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Scam Report Tool ("we," "our," or "the Service") collects, how it is used, and how we protect your privacy.

1. Overview

The Scam Report Tool is designed as a zero-knowledge, privacy-first application. Your scam reports are encrypted in your browser before being saved. Only you hold the key to decrypt them — we cannot access, recover, or read your data.

However, there are a few situations where some limited information may be processed differently, which are explained below.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what's necessary to keep the Service running smoothly:

a. Encrypted Data

Your reports, notes, and attachments are encrypted locally using your secret key before being saved to our servers. We cannot see or decrypt this content. It is recommended that users download copies of their reports for local storage to ensure they have access in case of accidental data loss or technical issues.

b. Basic Telemetry (Anonymous)

We collect simple, non-identifiable usage data such as:

  • Number of users (aggregate)
  • Token and API usage
  • Error rates and uptime data

This helps us manage infrastructure costs and detect technical issues. No personal information or report content is included.

c. AI Interaction Data (Unencrypted Segment)

When you use the AI-powered writing assistant, portions of your text are temporarily sent to the AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) to generate or refine content.

⚠️ Important: These interactions cannot be end-to-end encrypted, since the AI needs to read your text to help you. However:

  • Only the text you choose to send is transmitted.
  • These providers have their own strict privacy and data retention policies.
  • We select reputable AI providers that comply with major privacy standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

You can always choose to opt out of AI assistance and write your reports manually; however, in that case, the service will not be useful, as it is primarily AI-driven.

3. Cookies and Local Storage

We use local storage in your browser to hold your encryption key and session state. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.

4. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not share, sell, or trade any user data with third parties.

The only exception is the optional AI text processing described above, where data is sent securely to a third-party AI provider to fulfill your request.

5. Data Deletion

Because the Service is zero-knowledge encrypted:

  • We cannot delete individual items of your data or recover lost keys.
  • You may delete your entire account, which will remove all encrypted data from our storage.
  • Once deleted, it is permanently unrecoverable.
  • Users are encouraged to export and store copies of their reports for safekeeping before account deletion.

6. Security

We use industry-standard encryption and secure hosting to protect your data. Still, no system is 100% secure. Please keep your secret key private and offline in a safe place.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Effective Date."

8. Contact

For privacy-related inquiries, please reach out via the contact form on the About page.
